The house designed by Vanja Gregorc and Aleš Vrhovec in Podkoren, in the Julian Alps, is a good comment on the changed lifestyle and regional planning in the Slovene countryside during recent decades. Although urbanistic regulations in most small villages in fact permit solely the construction of family houses, the people in these houses have ensured that an additional floor and garret have been constructed, bearing in mind flats for their children’s future families. In reality, the number of inhabitants has gradually decreased, but the interest in holiday flats has been increasing.
